UB Athletics

Anyone interested in preventing or assisting sexual assault is welcome to these workshops. They are open to all members and guests of the UB Community. Renzo Gracie Academy

Greenpoint branch of Renzo Gracie Academy hosted a seminar on self-defense for women on March 19, with guest instructor Arthan bandeira. After many of her clients requested one, Chen and Bandeira organized the seminar. Both have been training together over three years, and they practice at least twice a day. Students learned basic techniques for defending themselves against different threats in the first seminar.


Master RenzoGracie, 6th-degree black belt, teaches students. Renzo Gracie was born and raised on the Brazilian coast and moved to New York with his family in 1997. The academy's distinctive teaching style is built on a system which can prevent an individual from being attacked. Students learn to fight confidently, stay composed, and how to keep their cool under pressure. They are encouraged, in groups, to practice martial art and to learn how to control their bodies to protect them.

Krav Maga Institute

New York's Krav Maga Institute is a respected self-defense training school. They focus on teaching an open-source, stress-tested, reality-based self defence system. The institute offers seminars that are ideal for teams and employees looking to improve their self-confidence and avoid an attack.
